Chapbook. What the hell is a chapbook? Simple, a chapbook is cheap, small printed booklet for street literature throughout early modern Europe. Printers often provided chapbooks on credit to chapmen, who would go door to door or yell on the marketplace to advertice it. Just like the birth of the commercial Internet!
With your first question out of the way, if you are not a person of culture, you might be wondering, what is malpertus? Malpertus is one of the myriad spellings of the lair of Reynard the Fox. Reynard the Fox is a collection of often gruesome (not for kids and not for the faint of heart) medieval allegorical Flemish, English, French and German fables. Reynard is a trickster, who likes to deceive others and punish them if they get in the way. The stories are often a satire on political and religious figures.
